Ouch!: Friday I was waiting to pick up the girls at school, when my son said to me, “I’m going to jump off this thing” We were sitting on the playground structure. I quipped back “Go ahead, jump you might fly” my thought was that he was going to jump off at the low step, but Noooo. He did a ¾ flip off the 4 foot platform, right on to his back. I heard the thud, but no crying, and didn’t think anything was wrong, till a friend said” I think her landed on his back” there was my 4 year old daredevil. On his back, unable to breathe due to the fact that he had knocked the wind out himself. I tried laying him down, and putting his knees to his chest but it didn’t work. So we were off to urgent care to make sure there was nothing broken, punctured, or collapsed. After about an hour, he was back to normal. B.P. and O2 levels were good, and the Dr. gave him this piece of advice “Land on your feet next time”
That’s Odd: This weekend started off pretty much the same as the rest. We ran some errands on Saturday morning, and then realized that we were not going to church that night. In the last 12 or so years, unless we were outta town or had another obligation, we were at church on Saturday night. This Saturday was unique in that for the first time, we had dinner together as a family. I’m taking the month of January off, and my wife was bumped from the frontline, so we rented Pirates of the Caribbean 3. I’ll say this, as weird as it seems to change our schedule, it was nice to have a full Saturday set aside for the family.
Bolts vs. Colts: Against the odds and odds makers, the Chargers pulled out an upset in Indy propelling them to the AFC Title game in New England next weekend. They played ¾ of the game without LT, and the last quarter without Rivers. This game was more exciting than the last time they faced off with the Colts. I will say this, in the last 2 years, the chargers are 3 – 0 vs. Manning and the gang. I think that it would be ironic if SD and NY get to the Super Bowl, since Ely Manning was originally drafted by the Chargers only to whine is way to a trade to NY. I also like the idea of SD handing New England their first loss of the season. Go Bolts!
The Neighborhood: After the game we went outside to throw the ball around. The neighbors across the street we out as well. So we spent the next 2 or so hours chatting and such. About an hour into this time a third neighbor came out with her baby. Shortly after that, he husband joined us. We had a good time getting to know the new neighbors, and set up a time for next Sunday to have a BBQ. This is something that the street hasn’t seen in a while. In the last 18 mos. This end of the street has cycled through neighbors in 3 houses, and it is difficult to get new neighbors to be neighborly. I think it would be great if we could have the type of neighbors that you could actually get to know and count on.
