Day 24.5: 27 years in the maknig

December 24, 2007 · 2 Comments

puzzle.pngSo we let the kids open a few presents tonight before we read from the Bible, Night before Christmas, and the Grinch. The gift that Blondie opened was a Rubik’s Cube. now it’s been 27 years since I gave up on this thing. I knew a guy that could solve it in a matter of seconds, but I never had the brain power.

Well, the unaltered cube stayed that way for about 3 minutes, when her sister managed to mix it up beyond any simple return. With a frown on her face, and mom was pretty much ready to go out and get a new one, I took over. I remembered a little of solving for one face, but not much after that. So I did what any father would do. I went to the web, and found a site that might be able to help me out of this mess.

The Nerd Paradise took me through the solution step by step, and low and behold in about 7 minutes, it was solved, and Blondie was happy again. it took another 5 minutes for her to mix i t up again and give it back to me to solve. the neat thing about the site is tat it is pretty systematic. Steps 1-6 get the job done, with only a few patterns of turns to memorize. Over the course of the night, I’ve solved the thing 5 times.

Merry Christmas to me!
