A night at the theatre: We were at the San Diego Youth Theatre on Friday to see their production of School House Rock. The company is made up of junior high and high school kids, and there was some real talent on stage. The stage set was simple, and the orchestra consisted of 5 pieces, but the production was top notch. They did all the favorites, I’m Just a Bill, My Hero Zero, Conjunction Junction, and many more. The play is about a new teacher that is nervous about his first teaching job, and he starts to recall the ABC Shorts and builds his confidence before his first day of school.
We were definitely out of our element. There were a lot of stage moms, and theatre types talking amongst themselves. Later on next year, the kids are taking a field trip to see “How to Eat Fried Worms” put on by the same group.
The Red Hots: Again, they pulled of their 8 victory of the season moving to 8-1. This was another hard fought game. This time with grandparents in the stands, the girls played hard and well. They were down 1-0 in the second quarter, but came back in the second half scoring 2 quick goals in the 3rd quarter. That was all it took. Next week is the last game of the season. I must say that this team, whatever their record is, is a team of good kids. There are no bad apples in the bunch. Everyone gets along, and there are no ball hogs, or slackers. Each girl plays a part, and every one gets the spoils.
some uncomfortable time: in a divorce, the friends are usually divvied up. Some friends of ours recently went through a split, and we happened to come down on the side of the wife. Today there was a birthday party for her daughter, and who was the first face I saw there…the husband. Wow! I thought. That must be pretty uncomfortable for her (the wife or ex-wife) but I too quickly became uncomfortable when I cornered me and started to talk. It became clear, that they were trying to keep up appearance, and it’s best for their daughter if they can act and be together in a civil manor. My hat’s off to the two of them for making a weird situation, a little more livable.
That wasn’t the most uncomfortable I got though…The second face that I saw there was a kid that used to work for me a few years back, a kid that I fired. Although that is water under the bridge, the kid is still unemployed, and I think that that was just one of many jobs that he had been let go from.
